The Sea of Quanta is an existence between and around worlds. It is a chaotic and messy place where spillover from several worlds can gather, and where unstable worlds called ‘bubble worlds’ float. It is a concept prominently featured in Honkai Impact 3rd.

Overview

Erwin Reanna Schrodinger has primarily used the description of a «sea» or «bathtub» as a metaphor for the Sea of Quanta but should not be taken literally. [1] [2] According to Misteln Schariac, the Sea of Quanta has existed since the beginning of the Universe. [3] Otto Apocalypse once thought that it is in constant battle with the Tree and is the place where worlds that have been defeated by the Honkai fall. [4] However, so far there is no evidence that proves his theory as there are worlds that are born in the Sea of Quanta like that of the Arc City Bubble and Magical Girl World, worlds that were intentionally thrown to it like that of the Seed of Sumeru where Kevin Kaslana was trapped and where Su stayed in his final moments despite no Honkai attacks involved or that of the ELF World which used to be a part of the Mu continent of Earth’s Previous Era.

It can also be noted that there are various antagonistic entities that do exist within it in the form of Quantum Shadows. Bronya Zaychik once fought Tlaloc, a monster created through Project Chimera in the Previous Era, within it. Recently, Misteln and PROMETHEUS had encountered a different type of monster not found in the latter’s database. [Note 1] Misteln speculated that they were placed by Abnormal Stigma No. 0014 to guard the entrance of their bubble world.

Mathematically speaking, the «Sea of Quanta» does not belong to the known four-dimensional space-time, but a large class of «folded planes» that exist parallel to us.

Unlike the «classic space-time» we live in, the «Sea of Quanta» is «fragmented» on a large scale—
Basic physical laws change continuously as the coordinates shift, resulting in the worlds being unstable like soap bubbles—
—However, in the gap between said fragmented worlds, there are countless «stable zones» fixated by the «Ether Anchor».
Those worlds, like ours, follow a fixed set of laws.

Chapter 3

The «Sea of Quanta» is not a real ocean.
It does not belong to any particular planet, nor is it composed of liquid such as water.
In fact, you should regard it as a «cornerstone» that does not belong to a «single universe», a «medium» where many worlds of countless possibilities exist.
Frankly speaking, we cannot fully describe its structure using a three-dimensional or four-dimensional mathematical concept—
Let’s imagine many worlds for a moment, each one with their own set of dimensions and laws, being their own separated «bubble world»—
—Following that metaphor, the «Sea of Quanta» is an «ocean» that houses countless «bubble worlds».
. Of course, it doesn’t matter if you think of it as a bathtub instead of an ocean.
«Membranes» are formed in the «fluctuations» of the «Ether» the «Sea of Quanta» is composed of, and said «membranes» may evolve into a «bubble world».
As we all know, a three-dimensional bubble has a spherical surface that is close to being two-dimensional.
When these «bubble worlds» are in the «Ether Bathtub», a choice of which of the eleven dimensions are inherited must be made.
For instance, in the «universe» we are familiar with, humans can recognize four dimensions and seven extra dimensions, each one being a constant «membrane».
What Overseer Otto referred to as «Ether Anchor» is the special structure or method that allows those «membranes» to turn into «bubble worlds».
When the «analogous distance» between two «membranes» is small enough, they begin to influence each other—For example, by exchanging matter.
Speaking in general, it’s easier for a substance to go from a «relatively small membrane» to a «relatively big membrane» but doing the opposite is quite difficult—
—As such, the «relatively small membrane» is likely to be the one who performs changes to other bigger «membranes».
And finally, the special «membrane» called «projection» is born.
In this «projection», only analogous areas of the «membranes» continue to exist—while everything else disappears completely.
For example, the «world» where the «Caledonia» exists right now is a «projection» made out of «membranes» which had analogous properties between them.
This is why you guests from another world, were able to meet «Captain Shakespeare» who came from another world.

At the bottom of the Sea of Quanta, there are many such wreckages of the world.
For example. people can only live like prisoners in fragments of a building, endlessly repeating the same day.

All matters in the universe are formed by quanta, and each of them brings innate uncertainty.
Once observed, a quantum collapses countless parallel universes to form one specific universe.
This is the basis of the famous Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI).

Assume the Universe as a glass of water surrounded by an infinite number of other glasses of water.
Overflowing water will flow along the glass walls to form a puddle in the middle of the table.
This puddle does not belong to any glass. but the water of the puddle may be from any glass.
People of the Previous Era found this «puddle» dimension between the parallel universes.
This «puddle» was named as the Sea of Quanta.

It’s just a theory. and no one ever saw the other end of the Sea of Quanta.

The Sea Of Quanta is a very important place in the world of Honkai Impact 3rd. It is the place where bubble universes reside and where several characters were sealed. The Sea Of Quanta is where Quantum Shadows are born and produced.

Summary [ ]

From the Sea Of Quanta was birthed the Imaginary Tree. Since these two were the only living things in the multiverse, they began a long rivalry. The Tree wishes to absorb the Sea, while the Sea wishes to drown the Tree. In order to facilitate this cycle, worlds «grow» as leaves of the Tree, and when they fail to persist, «fall» from the Tree and into the Sea. These worlds become fragmented versions of themselves, called bubble universes, with some having more stability than others.

More On Bubble Universes [ ]

The Sea of Quanta is a place that doesn’t follow contemporary rules. Some people’s memories are enough to create entirely new bubble universes, as was the case with the one Kevin Kaslana created to «teach» Seele Vollerei in Chapter 12, Plain of Vigrid. Some can be artificially created, such as the bubble universe Durandal and Rita visit. It was created by mankind in the Previous Era, and maintains stability through its Ether Anchor.

Ether Anchor [ ]

Simply put, an Ether Anchor is what tethers and holds a bubble universe together. It holds the world in place, but cannot do much to combat the lifespan of a bubble universe.

Квантовое Море, оно же Море Кванты (англ. «Sea of Quanta») — могущественная сущность-измерение. Является местом появления квантовых теней.

Происхождение [ ]

Неизвестно. Известно лишь то, что в Море однажды родилось Мнимое Древо и спустя время оба начали бороться друг с другом, безрезультатно.

Внешность [ ]

Внешний вид данного измерения представляет различные завершенные или частично завершенные геометрические структуры(сферы, кубы, параллелепипеды и т.д.). Также у измерения есть эффект воды и дно — особое место в глубине измерения, из которого невозможно вернуться, за что измерение и прозвали Морем.

Способности [ ]

Неизвестно. Квантовое Море является местом рождения Квантовых теней, а также источником Квантовых сил, например, как у Сееле. Также Море с Древом часто называют Мультивселенной, и путешествуют в другие миры именно через него.

Интересные факты [ ]

  • Вполне возможно, что силы Древа являются аллюзией на силу Хаоса (повсюду разрастается, создает и разрушает миры и т.д.), в то время как силы Моря — на порядок (старается остановить вечное изменение Древа и стабилироваться).
  • Когда Су спустился на дно Моря, то встретил там Сущность, которая знает о Хонкае. После, из-за своей скуки, тот предложил Су сыграть, и если человек победит, то он поведает, зачем существует Хонкай.
